Vernon Whole House Renovation

This Portland home remodel focused on correcting a severely compromised floor plan and restoring the layout to its original, functional design. Previous renovations had eliminated the central hallway, forcing access to two bedrooms and a shared bathroom directly through the kitchen. An out-of-place staircase had also been added in the living room, leading to an attic that was never intended to have permanent stairs.

Main Level Reconfiguration

Our primary goal was to bring back the intended layout by reintroducing a proper hallway, allowing each bedroom, the bathroom, and kitchen to be accessed independently. The unnecessary attic staircase was removed, and a pull-down ladder was installed in one of the bedrooms to provide access to a now-private, finished attic space.

Entry & Circulation Improvements

We redesigned the back entry to create a more functional and private transition point, allowing separate access to both the basement and main level—greatly improving flow for everyday living.

Basement Build-Out

The basement was fully finished into livable space, adding two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchenette with family room, and a dedicated laundry/mechanical area—significantly increasing the home’s usable square footage.

Exterior Restoration & Upgrades

The exterior was restored to better reflect the home’s original character, including the addition of a period-appropriate front porch and rebuilding missing eave details. The garage was straightened and corrected structurally. The project was completed with a new roof, gutters, and drainage improvements, including dry wells that direct water approximately 12 feet away from the foundation for long-term protection.
